Nazareth Housing Sligo

The Nazareth House Residential Care Unit Development provides state of the art residential facilities for the elderly.  Located on a prominent site adjacent to the Summerhill Roundabout, the tasteful architectural treatment of the buildings provides a pleasing visual experience at the entrance to City of Sligo.

This project itself involved the development of 9 No. blocks of single-storey housing schemes providing accommodation for the elderly in 48 separate fully independent individual Residential Care Units.  The development also included a 2-storey extension to Main Nazareth House Building including 12 bedrooms in addition to remedial works to the living quarters.  Ancillary works associated with the development included the upgrade of the site roads within the Nazareth House complex and the provision of improved drainage facilities and site roads.

Jennings O’Donovan provided civil and structural engineering services including:

  • RC raft foundation on 5 No. blocks
  • Pile foundations on 3 No. blocks
  • Strip foundation on 1 block
  • Masonry walls design
  • Timber Roof Trusses design to complement the architectural finish.

Overall, the footprint of the Residential Care Units buildings extend to an approximate floor area of 3,200m2.  The civil / structural design was developed as an iterative process in conjunction with the Design Team.  The contract for the Residential Care Units was to the Department of Finance Public Works Contract and included provision for Value Engineering to realise the agreed optimal design solution.
