Ballyjamesduff Regional Water Supply Scheme – Ballinagh Extension

The Ballyjamesduff Regional Water Supply Scheme was designed to serve the towns and surrounding rural areas of Ballyjamesduff, Kilnaleck, Ballinagh and Mount Nugent in County Cavan.  Due to the deterioring pipe network and poor quality water at the existing Ballinagh Public Water Scheme, Cavan County Council sought to interconnect the scheme to the Ballyjamesduff RWSS.  This project dealt specifically with the interconnection of Ballinagh PWS and replacement of existing asbestos cement pipelines. In addition, allowance was made in the design to facilitate a future interconnection with the Cavan Town Regional Water Supply Scheme.

Details of the distribution pipelines and storage facilities provided in the contract are as follows:

  • Trunk Mains (400mm O.D.) of 10km length from Kilnaleck Village to Ballinagh Town
  • Trunk Mains (400mm O.D.) of 5km length from Ballinagh Town to Cornaseer Reservoir
  • Distribution Mains (250mm I.D.) of 5km length from Cornaseer Reservoir to Ballinagh Town.
  • Construction of 1,800m³ Reservoir at Cornaseer Td., and demolition and clearance of existing site structures.

The project which was completed in 2013 also included associated interconnection pipework, service connections, valves, bulk meters (incl. establishment of DMA’s) and telemetry relay back to a central SCADA system.
