Extension to Ransboro National School, Knocknahur, Sligo
In association with Simon J. Kelly & Partners Architects, Jennings O’Donovan provided Civil and Structural Engineering Services for an extension to Ransboro National School for the Department of Education and Science.
The floor area of the extension was 518m 2 including a General Purpose area, 3 classrooms, a multisensory room, an office, a plant room, toilets and corridors.
A key feature of the development was the requirement to develop a design which would allow works to take place safely during an operational school term. Minimal disruption to staff, pupils and the public was achieved in a number of ways including:
– Identification of safety constraints, preparation of Design Risk Assessments and SafetyMitigation Measures.
– Construction access through adjoining church grounds away from school activities.
– The adjoining games pitch was used as a playground.
– Optimum use of the confined space on site by building on the demarcation boundaries and linked to the existing circulation corridor.
