Butt Hall, Ballybofey, Co. Donegal
Client:Butt Hall Committee
Architect:Carr and Company Architects.
Value:€8,000,000
The Butt Hall Theatre is situated in the heart of the twin town of Ballybofey/Stranolar, adjacent to the River Finn.
The design challenges that the demolition and rebuilding of the Butt Hall Theatre presented were many and complex.
Creating a modern, environmentally sustainable building in a confined site along the N15, a major thoroughfare.
Along with performance theatre, expansive foyer, office space and full 360o viewing area. Butt Hall also sports an underground basement the full length of the building. Ground conditions are very poor, and excavating the basement was both labour intensive and expensive.
Secant piling formed the outer wall of the basement, the ground was excavated out and a reinforced concrete shell was then cast. Internally steel columns support the floors.
The main building consists of steel colums, reinforced glass, blockwork walls, PC floors and timber cladding.
